Marina Maliakas qualified as an Occupational Therapist through the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa. She completed her community service year at Helen Joseph Hospital focused on treating acute physical conditions, such as strokes and spinal cord injuries in adult patients. During her community service year, she volunteered at various children’s orphanages and spent various days job shadowing occupational therapists in private practice, specifically paediatric occupational therapists, as this is where her passion has always been. She has since worked at a few private pediatric clinics in Johannesburg and has seen children with a range of conditions.
Marina has a huge passion for sensory integration and enjoys working with children with varying diagnoses, such as learning disabilities, ASD, sensory processing disorders, communication difficulties and neurological disorders. She also enjoys working with children to improve their handwriting skills. She is currently also completing her Masters of Science in Occupational Therapy with a focus primarily on perception and sensory integration and the role of Occupational Therapists in sports.
Marina has recently moved to the United Kingdom with her husband and baby boy and is delighted to have joined KCC LTD.
