Social skills groups address social and emotional skills that impact behaviour, social interaction and learning.  The groups provide a safe environment to stimulate the child, to test their behaviour, and to help them develop tools to modify their behaviour.

Skills addressed include

  • Self awareness and control
  • Turn-taking
  • Listening and conversation skills
  • Self expression
  • Reading
  • Regulating emotions
  • Working co-operatively
  • Winning and losing
  • Managing challenging behaviour
  • Confidence and self esteem
  • Assertiveness

Children from the age of 4 years will be accepted and grouped according to their skills and age.  A questionnaire will need to be completed which may need to be supported by a one to one assessment to determine strengths and needs and suitability for the group programme.
